Consumer Right to Know Disclosure
In compliance with enacted right-to-know legislation, the following information provides information for consumers on what ingredients are used in the manufacture or processing of our cookware products. SCANPAN complies with all applicable legislation and manufactures under regulation from the Danish and EU authorities regarding both environment and food contact materials. In addition, we work to reduce our overall environmental load by producing long lasting products.
We believe the use of certain PFAS substances are necessary in nonstick cookware for good function and durability. These substances DO NOT migrate out during use of the cookware as they are completely bound in the hardened coating. This is confirmed by the Danish consumer council TÆNK, which states that the use of the product is safe. SCANPAN is under much stricter government regulations (environmental, food safety, and manufacturing) in the EU than companies who manufacture anywhere else in the world. By choosing SCANPAN, which is Made in Denmark and uses exclusively European nonstick suppliers, you are buying a product that is produced responsibly for the environment and the entire supply chain.
As a member of the Cookware & Bakeware Alliance, we are committed to creating safe consumer products, and welcome any questions from our customers. Click “Support” in the lower right corner of any page on our site to submit a question.
ATTENTION CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS – PROPOSITION 65 WARNING:
WARNING: Some Scanpan products may expose you to chemicals including Tetrafluoroethlene which are known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. For more information, go to P65Warnings.ca.gov.
All Scanpan products meet or exceed the requirements of applicable product performance and safety industry standards, as well as the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act.
However, the State of California has listed over 900 chemicals that must be disclosed under Proposition 65 to California residents. The list, which is updated annually, includes a wide variety of chemicals that can be found in many consumer products, such as cookware, kitchen utensils, and other household goods.
WHY DOES SCANPAN INCLUDE THIS WARNING? We provide Prop 65 warning labels to inform consumers that certain products contain chemicals on the State of California's Prop 65 list. This does not mean the product is unsafe. All Scanpan products meet or exceed applicable product performance and safety industry standards. The label simply ensures that Scanpan USA is in compliance with California's Prop 65 warning label requirements.
It's also important to note: all Scanpan nonstick coatings are completely free of PFOA, PFOS, lead, and other harmful fluorochemicals. Our proprietary STRATANIUM® coating is rigorously tested and manufactured to the highest safety standards.
WHAT IS CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 65? In 1986, California voters approved the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act (known as "Proposition 65"). Proposition 65 is a "Right to Know" statute; its purpose is to make sure people are aware, before they purchase, that the product they come into contact with contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. The statute requires a warning label even if the amount of the chemical is miniscule.
The State of California has listed over 900 chemicals that must be disclosed under Prop 65. The list is updated annually and includes chemicals found in many everyday consumer products, including cookware, kitchen utensils, and other household goods.
WHERE CAN I FIND MORE INFORMATION ABOUT PROPOSITION 65? The State of California provides Proposition 65 information on the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment website.
WHY IS THIS LABEL INCLUDED ON ALL PRODUCTS? Scanpan USA operates and ships from a warehouse based in California. As a result, all products are subject to Proposition 65 requirements, and we include this label on all applicable products accordingly.
